A logo that can sing
Chaco a journey of the spirit was a request from the symphony director, Gary Gasteder, at St. Louis Community College. Combining the Sun Dagger, which has been identified as a solstice calendar to help indicate the shifting of the seasons. This calendar can be found on Fajada Butte in New Mexico. Utilizing this Sun Dagger I developed this logo to reflect the carved texture of this calendar, and instead of the sun as used in the previous versions of the logo the sun was transformed into the New Mexico flag.
Final logo with variations
The final logo is very similar to what was conceived in the early stages of this process except for one small change. Instead of utilizing a geometric typeface, I decided to handwrite CHACO in a similar fashion to how the logo was created giving the logo and the typeface a sense of unity.
The custom typeface
This typeface was developed in response to creating the handwritten letters for the logo. Kiva takes the earthy feel that was originally displayed in the final logo and expands it across the entire alphabet this also includes numbers and glyphs.

Music in motion
During the process of developing the logo, Gary Gasteder had some amazing photography during his trip to Chaco Canyon and wanted to find a way to incorporate the photography into the symphony. So instead of just having a PowerPoint slide of images playing in the background while the symphony played I decided to Parallax some of the images to give some type of movement while the symphony played.
